About 'Benches of Astana'

I started blogging in September 2011 when I moved to Astana, Kazakhstan. I wanted to tell friends and family how life was - day to day realities to read about during a tea break, as opposed to grandiose statements about political issues. So I made observations of things within a few feet of me, and in particular about a few benches. The humble bench, a common requirement the world over, is always a light-hearted topic and seems to work well as a vehicle for innocuous self expression.

I originally called the blog 'PBJ in Kazakhstan', but in January 2013 I moved to Russia so thought I should rename it. Given the popularity of the bench articles, I went for 'Benches of Astana' just because it sounds a bit unusual. Most of the blog is now neither about benches nor Astana, but it isn't  about anything else in particular either!

So standby for day-to-day observations on my local environment, bench reviews where possible, some good natured guidebook-bashing, and the odd piece of classic tourism. You can sign up to get an email each time I post something, and I will also welcome your comments.

Thanks for visiting!
