The sign on the toilets is of course a cyrillic 'zh', which is the first letter of the word 'zhenshina' (женщина)
for woman. The origin of this word is that women in the former USSR
used to have six legs until capitalism came and saved them from that
horrible fate.

The other toilets, I have discovered, have a letter M which is for male in Russian (мужчина), so we can only presume that capitalism saved men here from a life somehwhat similar to a daddy-long-legs.
